Business Issue
Outsourcing enables organizations to
realize a greater amount of development projects under stationary
or shrinking capital expenses. Initial partnership and on-going
communications with the outsourcing partner will be a key to the
financial success of outsourcing. Communicating effectively with
partners of a different culture is an area of opportunity in
off-shore outsourcing. If addressed early on it will provide a
competitive edge.
Dramatic differences in workplace conduct
and behaviors exist and need to be acknowledged as business issues.
Differences in personal as well as group behaviors—adherence to
hierarchy, sense of urgency, problem escalation, behavior at
meetings, decision-making—need to be articulated, and managers will
need to become skilled at navigating those differences and managing
the diverse workforce. Being able to complete more projects
in a timely manner with limited capital expenses will be the
success criteria of the offshore outsourcing initiative. Clarity in
communications and understanding the assumptions based on culture
of the outsourcing partner will play a critical role in expectation
setting, collaboration, work completion and reducing rework.
Workshop Overview
The primary objective of this communication
improvement initiative is to move cultural awareness to on-the-job
application. The result is an increase in personal and team
productivity. This will be achieved through action-learning
training sessions. Participants will improve their skills using
real-life examples and actively participating in exercises and
role-plays. This session deals with situations that most often
arise in a work environment. The primary focus of the workshop
is to help participants:
- Explore how cultural differences play out in communications and
other workplace activities.
- Anticipate, respond and leverage cultural differences for
personal and group productivity.
Effective
communication models address different cultures as well as
multicultural work groups. Therefore, a natural outcome of this
learning session will be learning to deal with cultural issues of a
multicultural workforce.
